The Road to El Dorado

I saw this movie when I was ten and loved it, but never owned it, so I haven't seen it since then. I was reminded of it today and decided to watch it--um, wow, ten years later and it's just as fun as I remember it being. I kind of want it on DVD now...

But the point of the post! The Road to El Dorado was always one of the examples I used of movies where I automatically caught onto the subtext as a kid. It was years after I saw the movie that it occurred to me that Miguel and Tulio might not have been intended as a couple. And I learned today that, actually, they were. And were supposed to refer to each with pet names, but that got cut out.

Somehow, though, as a kid I missed the subtext of the ending: Miguel, Tulio, and Chel all ride off into the sunset. Together.

OT3. Fuck yeah.

(I also mistakenly thought it was a Disney movie for the longest time, but it's DreamWorks. Cartoon nudity, blatant sexuality, a gay couple, and an implied triad at the end? That would never fly at Disney. More's the pity. It was awesome.)
