I skimmed Three Stories last night, and found so many parallels between that episode and 97 Seconds (especially in "that scene"). It had to be done on purpose! That further convinces me that scene was supposed to be totally serious.

It can be platonic love.
It makes me laugh when people try so hard to deny it for that exact reason.
