Epitaph 2

Well, here we are. At the end.

It was ~FANTASTIC~. Seriously, pitch perfect. And I'm not gonna lie, I'm one of the few who has constant faith in the show, but I did worry a bit about Epitaph 2, especially when the promo came out and mentioned everyone returning to their original personalities...I really, really didn't want a series so dark to end on an easy, light note (especially since the issues it's covered metaphorically do NOT have easy solutions).

I wound up having nothing to worry about. It wasn't a "happy" ending per se, but more bittersweet overall. Everyone got their personalities back, but its acknowledged there's still a lot of work left to do to fix the world. (Especially when you consider all the imprinted people that were gunned down...)

Ah, so, specifics?

I was pretty neutral to the whole Echo/Paul thing during the series, but, damn, it was working in this episode. I really didn't care that Paul died, but I wanted to cry for Echo. Eliza Dushku got one final chance to flip off her haters and once again showed she CAN act, and fantastically at that.

I must admit, though, that the final scene of Dollhouse is basically Echo with Paul in her head, lying in the pod...masturbating? XD (Also, got an LOL at Echo saying she let Paul in "sometimes." Dirty girl. I love you.)

I freakin' LOVED the scene at Rossum's HQ with fat!Harding. It pretty much summed up my feelings on big corporations: a bunch of privileged assholes, sitting around fat and happy while the world burns--and for WHAT? Can't say I blame Echo for getting a bit of satisfaction gunning down Harding over and over.

"You're so corny." "You're...fat." <= Loved this, it was so random. Once again: here's that family everyone was bitching was missing at the start of the series.

"The Asian's kind of cute." "She's a tech-head, Mag...........she's a GIRL, Mag." Amusingly, right before that line, I was thinking, either Mag and Zone hook-up, or Mag is gay. So, Mag is gay.

Also, I was more surprised about Mag getting shot in the legs like fifty-gabillion times than Paul dying. I actually thought Felicia Day was going to die again. (Same with Alpha.)

As usual, I enjoyed Adelle and Topher's scenes. Sometimes I'd get a mother/son vibe from them, sometimes a romantic one...in this episode, I couldn't separate them out. They were just...GUH. And Topher deliberately walking to his death? I don't even

I can already tell fandom breathed a collective sigh of relief to see Priya and Tony back together at the end. Here's one of the places not being cancelled would have been great. Imagine seeing Tony gradually evolve into a tech head? Even though we saw bits of that in "The Hallow Men."

Other stuff in the air:
- Dude, what happened to Dominic? (No Dominic/DeWitt sexy time? /shallow)
- Alpha! Just...Alpha. When'd he start working with them? Echo said he evolved, and I'd have to assume that has something to do with Paul being in his head.
- General timeline issues. How did we get from "The Hallow Men" to "Epitaph 1"? Dr. Saunders is back, with no scars. Again with the Alpha helping them, and missing!Dominic. Why they're all back in the Dollhouse in the first place. (See, I can actually see DeWitt going back...everyone else, not so much.)

But the finale was so satisfying, I'm not killing myself over this stuff--instead, it leaves this little two-season show wide open for lots of interesting fic for a long time.

Something E2 did explain: in E1, Tony and Priya referenced other people by their active code names (Juliet, Mike). In this ep, Priya said Tony decided to become Victor, and the other tech heads had the code names still (Romeo, Yankee). So I'd have to assume "Juliet" and "Mike" were tech heads.

Sigh. Is the DVD out yet?
