House 520

My internet connection's all whacky, so I wound up watching this episode by myself. Maybe that was for the best.

When the writers have a clear vision, they nail it. Season 5 started off fine, then plummeted into crap, then had a string of meh episodes, and around "The Softer Side" began to pick up again. With "Simple Explanation," they show they know how to write deaths. Amber's death hurt so much - it was unfair and about so much lost potential (for the character, for her relationship with Wilson). Kutner's hurt, too - again, unfair, and the way it came out of no where and has no explanation and probably never will.

And I wish everyone would stop bitching. 2 of my 5 favorite characters on this show have been killed off, and yet I think this was the one of the stronger episodes of the season (lol, though that doesn't say much).

I read the spoilers. I assumed Kutner would be doomed. But when they showed his body, the gun, and the blood...I felt sick. And I also went into denial for a few minutes ("Dream sequence, dream sequence, dream sequence...") Some people want their fiction to be pure escapism; I like my fiction to make me feel and think. It's okay if it hurts, because at the end of the day it's still not real!

Though I refuse to take the stuff on Kutner's memorial site as canon. Didn't show it on the show, doesn't count =P (The notes were great, though; very in-character.)

Taub, man, I feel awful for him =( Kutner was one of the few good things in his life, and now he's dead. By suicide, of all things. He was very House-like in this episode, acting like a dick and pretending he doesn't care, saying Kutner was an idiot...and then mourning alone.

Yeah, I don't even know what to say about House. Him thinking it was murder, so in character, yet so ridiculous that I felt sorry for him. And the episode ending with him, alone, looking at Kutner's photo...ouch. (Hint, Fox - GIVE THE VIEWERS A FUCKING BREATHER AFTER THAT. Sheesh, almost ruined the scene.)

As a testament to how this episode didn't suck - Foreman and 13's scenes were perfect. Them, covered in Kutner's blood? Horrifying. 13 being forced to deal with this on her own - yes, I actually understood her loneliness there. I hate that they overuse 13, but in storylines that are relevent to her, I'm happy to watch. Because now I'm anticipating her to doing something crazy (marry Foreman?) - Amber's death made her get the Huntington's test, and being held at gunpoint made her realize she wants to live. Kutner's death has to have an effect.

Cuddy's scenes didn't suck, either. There's bitching about them, but she seemed to be behaving perfectly reasonable, except the one scene where she obviously wasn't meant to be: Wilson's smack-down =) I know, he already more-or-less said the same thing earlier in the season, but saying so explicitly to Cuddy that he knows she doesn't care about him made me feel good. Cuddy's a creepy parasite; now, if only Wilson would stop enabling her. (I'm hoping Wilson later gives her the lecture he gave Stacy and Cameron. It would make House/Cuddy sex more bearable.)

Whew, this episode gave me a lot to think about...

Interesting, Amber was like House, and died. Kutner's similarities to House were pointed out, and he's dead, too. Another layer in the story.

Something's up with Wilson. I'm not so sure the "this" he's dealing with was referring to Kutner's death.

Of all the ways Kutner could have killed himself, he used a gun, the same weapon that killed his birth parents.

Of course, everyone will now fanwank why Kutner killed himself. It's actually pretty easy to make the case Kutner was closeted...no. Really. His out-of-nowhere girlfriend mentioned only on the memorial site is pretty suspicious.

...so, Kutner/Amber ghost!sex? Y/N?

I was glad Wilson finally told Cuddy off. I didn't mind Foreman/13 and Taub was interesting. Didn't care about the POTWs or Cuddy. I really wish Cuddy would leave; she's just embarrassing to watch. I liked the House/Wilson scenes and I don't understand all the Wilson hate at the H_W comm right now.

It's pretty ironic; there's all this Cuddy-hate, and yet so many people have the same screwed-up expectations for Wilson Cuddy has. Hm.

As a testament to how this episode didn't suck - Foreman and 13's scenes were perfect. Aw, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that. The whole 14 thing has pissed me off, but then since about Softer Side it has actually become bareable. People bitching about the 13/Foreman shots at the end I just don't get, they showed everyone's reactions, and out of all the people at the funeral, they were the characters closest to Kutner, so it all did make sense.

Him thinking it was murder, so in character, yet so ridiculous that I felt sorry for him. Oh totally! And even Wilson at the end I think started to feel really sorry for him. Though there's obviously something else going on with Wilson, just to finish off this whole that House hasn't seen what's going on right under his nose. Wilson's remark about not being able to deal with this and with House really does seem like there's something else happening.

I was near waiting for Wilson to tell Cuddy that House is just her little pet for her to play with when she feels like it. When it comes to emotionally screwed up people, the show hasn't really gone in depth into Cuddy yet, but she's not much better than House in my opinion, and its why they're failed to doom. Leaving House more free time for hanging with Wilson, yay!

Wow, okay, think I've said enough. Heh, sorry, your thoughts are amongst the more rational. The people who are just spouting off about their hatrid and the death of the show, I wish they'd just go somewhere with their season 1 and 2 box sets and leave the rest of us to watch the character development, because we've waited for five seasons to see if anything in the world of House would ever really change, and this is something that's an actual change.

...so, Kutner/Amber ghost!sex? Y/N?
HAHAHAHA, Amber can't escape from him now. Kutner will be all like 'you can't even say you're involved with Wilson now and have no excuse to turn me down and we're gonna be here forever!!! :D' and Amber would give in... because it's freaking Kutner.

Hell yeah to how they handled the discovery of Kutner. I don't care for 13/OW, but damn, OW's expression going from teasing to horror, and then her heels and jeans slipping on the blood and her not caring, and then sitting back crying while Foreman refuses to admit he'd dead = awesome. And THANK YOU, 13 wasn't overused this ep -- it MADE SENSE. Plus this is the episode that has officially sold the pairing for me.

Cuddy's a creepy parasite; now, if only Wilson would stop enabling her.
They once called Wilson in a previous episode seasons ago 'Cuddy's Cuddy.' I think that was still when Cuddy was awesome so it meant he would get her to be awesome. But now Cuddy's an enabler and Wilson aka 'Cuddy's Cuddy' is not so strong anymore? IDK. Wilson just doesn't seem to have the strength to deal with other people's problems anymore. He's still grieving over Amber, and his schizo brother, and I think there's something else going on too (I don't even think he's really dating the nurse at the mental hospital, I think he just agreed with House to put him off)

Interesting, Amber was like House, and died. Kutner's similarities to House were pointed out, and he's dead, too. Another layer in the story.
I remember meta that House could have ended 'awesomely' in S2 with House's death or something equally ambiguous-but-not. Maybe they are gonna kill House off in the final season? He's wearing the glasses more and more. That worries me, argued symbolism for Locked In or not.

Something's up with Wilson. I'm not so sure the "this" he's dealing with was referring to Kutner's death.
LOL, okay nvm you said it. :D

When House brought up the police charges against Kutner and deduced it was because Kutner used to be a child molester I got so, so sick. And Cuddy correcting him Kutner streaked at a football game making me laugh and fondly OHHH KUTNERR didn't help. :C
