It's old news that I have an insane girlcrush on Martha, but my love for Uhura in the new Star Trek film is already at the same level. (Yes, I'm going to see the movie again this weekend!)

And someone articulated perfectly why I love her.



It's very hard to express how glad I am for Spock/Uhura. For the first time, I really see myself onscreen (geeky Black chick) - and I get the guy I want (mysterious, smart, intense, full of understated sexy)! (Full comment here, by afro_dyte)

And you know what, this too:

There's none of the sleaze factor that you normally get with onscreen romance. Beyond Spock's reserve and Uhura's boldness, you have this relationship between two dedicated professionals presented so deftly - even gently - that you can believe the dynamic without needing to be beaten over the head with it. What happens in the film is a relationship between two people because of who they are and not what fits the Hollywood Plot Mold. The passion and intimacy in their relationship stems from a core of mutual respect.

I don't think I need to add to that.
