And you know what, this too:
There's none of the sleaze factor that you normally get with onscreen romance. Beyond Spock's reserve and Uhura's boldness, you have this relationship between two dedicated professionals presented so deftly - even gently - that you can believe the dynamic without needing to be beaten over the head with it. What happens in the film is a relationship between two people because of who they are and not what fits the Hollywood Plot Mold. The passion and intimacy in their relationship stems from a core of mutual respect.
I don't think I need to add to that.
