Title Five Times House Loved A Man
Rating PG-13
Pairing House/Wilson
Word Count 500
Spoilers None
Summary Just like the title says. Five drabbles.

1.
You loved him; but then again, every kid starts out loving their father, by default. Even your dad wasn't so much of a bastard that you came out the womb preprogrammed to hate him. No, that was something he worked damn hard to earn.

Whenever you hear that the opposite of love is indifference, you're further convinced everyone is stupid, because the way you feel about him now is so far from “love” that you can't actually remember not feeling this way.

But you must have loved him, at some point. Because every kid starts out loving their father.

2.
You loved him, naturally - he was your only friend at the time, the first steady friendship in your life. So it only made sense that, in an ironic twist, that you would screw it up, screw him over, and screw his girlfriend.

“She's nuts,” you later told him, and although there may have been a grain of truth to that, it was mostly a lie to cover your tracks. Fortunately, you never considered omission lying, because you did a lot of that, too.

You were never one for keeping up charades, so there was no reason to stay in contact.

3.
You loved him, if speaking in only the most euphemistic of terms, which you don't. You fucked him. Not because you loved him, or liked him, or were even attracted to him.

It was simple curiosity, and the only way you know how to satisfy it is to experiment on yourself, because sex is like drugs. No matter how much someone describes it, words can't compare to experiencing.

You fucked him and got your answers. Maybe it was just because, at the time, you weren't accustomed to having sex with strangers, but you felt it wasn't an experience worth repeating.

4.
You loved him.

Fine, her, as “she” keeps insisting.

But that was the problem. Meaningless sex is a one-time thing. It's when feelings get involved that it can turn into an affair, and you don't respect that kind of behavior, and would never do that to Stacy, or to her.

Maybe you loved her first, but you were committed to Stacy, so the decision was simple. It would only be one time, meaningless, and then forgotten.

But you knew it would never be any of those things. Never forgotten. Never meaningless. And there would always be a second chance.

5.
You love him, of course. He's your only friend now. Steadiest relationship in your life.

Sometimes, you hate him, and he seems incapable of remaining faithful to one woman. But you still respect him.

And for the first time in years, you're considering a certain experience might be worth revisiting.

Damn. Even Stacy wasn't this confusing.

He's getting married this weekend, for the third time; she's named Julie. You're his best man, she already hates you. You can tell this one is going to fail and wonder if he's incapable of learning from his mistakes.

Idiot.

You still love him.

Oh shit. I think the first one hit me the hardest.

But you must have loved him, at some point. Because every kid starts out loving their father.

They're all fabulous. Sometimes I really love House, and you showed me why. :)

I love the first one, the one where Stacy is called a he, and the last one with Wilson. Very interesting and introspective. :<)

Thanks! But Stacy wasn't the "he" in that one...was it too unclear?

My brain isn't working well, so just: I adore these - they pack an insane amount into a small space, and they're amazingly well-done. *mems*
