Doctor Who 504 & 505

Moffat is my master.

I mean, uh, these two episodes were GREAT!

I don't even know where to begin, seriously. I'm probably going to re-watch these episodes together later tonight. They're in danger of being my favorite two-parter, I do believe.

The Time of Angels
This seriously had the BEST OPENING SEQUENCE EVER. The Doctor's running his mouth about High Gallifreyan and all it says is..."Hello, Sweetie." River Song was completely FIERCE, too, complete with the insane red heels and this line: "Like I said on the dance floor, you might want to find something to hang onto." And just overall INSANE VISUAL FLAIR.

I lovelovelove the banter between the Doctor and River, and how easily they fell into it. "I learned from the best." "Well...yeah." "Too bad you were busy that day!" and "He thinks he's so hot when he does that." And River hanging her shoes up like she owned the place a;slf;sldfksdlfsd;flk And the Doctor acting like a total dad towards Amy, and River like a mom (yes, I still ship all combinations like burning).

Oh god, I love the Doctor and River's dynamic in this. He tries to pretend like he's more familiar with her than he really is, and the moment the TARDIS door is closed, he looks completely freaked and wants to run! "Time's not the boss of me." Oh ho ho, guess you're wrong about that.

What's that, River?

"I'M NOT GOING TO BE YOUR PERSONAL TAXI WHENEVER YOU WANT TO JUMP OUT OF A SHIP!"
"You are sooooo wrong."

And the Doctor hateshateshates it! He's getting a taste of his own medicine on so many levels. River knows more than he does about his screwdriver, his TARDIS, his personal future. Once again he must experience the frustration that is someone swooping in and being, well, a Time Lord! Then he tries to get around this by epic failing at listening in on River and Amy's conversation.

Amy was brilliant, as usual. I honestly would have never thought to pause the video of the Angel on the static, even though that makes an unnecessary amount of sense. Go Amy! And of course I loved her teasing the crap out of the Doctor, calling him "Mr. Grumpy Face," and then describing River's behavior towards him as, "she's all...heel, boy." DEAD. DEAD. I LOVE YOU SFM, AMY.

And Angel Bob was completely creepy. "How are you still alive?" "The Angels killed me, too, Doctor." WHAT THE FRACKING FARGNAX.

...oh, I guess I am still incoherent.

Flesh and Stone
So what are the chances of me being any more coherent about this one? Which, by the way, I think I like even more than "The Time of Angels," if that's possible!

This episode creeped me out way more, and I think I somehow held my breath the entire time. Amy's countdown, creepy and funny: "Five. I mean...five..........fine." Amy having to walk through the forest with her eyes shut, surrounded by Weeping Angels, and wearing a red hoodie? Little Red Riding Hood. (Also? I would have cried like crazy if I were her.)

I love the Doctor and Amy's relationship; they're definitely my favorite doctor/companion combination, so I was kind of DYING OF JOY for all the little and big moments in this episode.

Which puts me on a bit of a tangent: Jesus Christ, the Doctor sure loves touching Amy! Second episode, we got the epic hug complete with burying his face into her neck. Third episode had him kissing her forehead. Fourth had the little hair nuzzle. This one...he pats her on the head before leaving her behind, then holds her hands, and presses his forehead against hers.

Also: after the Doctor walks away from Amy, he comes back and is wearing his jacket again, with the sleeves rolled up, looks over his shoulder, and generally seems more freaked than he was two seconds ago. He so time-traveled from a future episode.

Uh, so back to the Doctor/Amy squee fest: his constant freak-outs in this episode over Amy made me feel all squishy on the inside...chucking the communicator while talking to Angel Bob, his constant pained expression, screaming "YOU HAVE TO DO THIS!" pounding his hand. Oh god. The scene with him talking Amy through the forest reminded me of when the Doctor had Donna knock out a Sontaran. And thinking about that, it reminds me how much more I like Matt Smith's performance over David Tennant's; Eleven actually comes off as vulnerable, while Ten tended to come off as just...sorry for himself.

Uh, and I love this: "Amy, I need you to trust me." "But you don't always tell me the truth." "If I always told you the truth, I wouldn't need you to trust me."

I loved the Doctor and River's relationship just as much, as the Doctor gradually shifted from "OH GOD NO" to "hm, intriguing." Is it just me, or when the River pretends she's engaged to Octavian, the Doctor looks a little disappointed? Like he was getting used to the idea River's his wife in the future? Of course, a few minutes later, he has the most lolarious smug expression upon finding out she's been to prison. Also: "I could bloody kiss you!" "Well, maybe when you're older." I LOVE YOU, RIVER.

I love Eleven when he's angry. It comes on so quickly, then dissipates just as fast; and like Nine, I actually jump a little when he starts yelling. And I love that yelling is his reaction to pressure. And how he's completely not comforting. At all. And he's so alien; his reaction to Amy's come-on is to pretend he understands, twice, then admitting he doesn't, twice. LOL.

So, Snog-Gate: awesome. I've been waiting forever for the context of the kiss, and now I have it...Amy just felt like it! She's not possessed or in love, she just wants to fuck the Doctor. That's just brilliant. (Also, boo to the Daily Fail blowing the whole scene out of proportion with grainy-cheap-porn-looking photos and a detailed blow-by-bow that sounded like the writer of the article was writing with one hand. Ahem.)

And to the folks calling Amy a whore: fuck you. Amy's better than you, your arguments are forever invalid. (Also: what does that make Mr. Jack Harkness?)

THE ANGELS MOVED HOLY SHIT. That freaked me out since I wasn't expecting it all. Even after earlier in the episode when you can see one move slightly, which was also extremely creepy, by the way.

Wow, can I use the words "creepy" and "love" any more in this post? Bet I can.

If the Doctor calls Jeff "the good-looking one" one more time, I will be forced to ship Doctor/Jeff. Seriously, dude.

The Confidentials
Matt actually pulled off a piece of the set, because he's clumsy like a drunken giraffe, but kept going. He actually bit Karen so he could get a reaction out of her after eleventy gazillion takes. I. Love. Him.

Dying of laughter over Matt mocking Karen, and teasing her for grabbing his thigh during "Smoochie Smoochie Time" as they call it, and "getting into the moment" and Karen hiding her face 'a;flad;f';s'dfl;s'fld I don't want to ship real people. But they make it so hard.

:O I totally did not notice that! But yes, he does seem to have a completely different tone in the second conversation versus the first, doesn't he? *is intrigued*

Also I'm entirely not surprised that people are calling Amy a whore because, well, Who fandom is probably the most vicious fandom there is and pretty much hates women possibly more than fandom in general does. I don't ship Doctor/Amy even now and think Amy is wrong for jumping the Doctor when she's engaged... but the idea that having a sexuality and daring to kiss their precious Doctor makes her a whore is just...ugh. No.

It is totally not you. It was like he got his toy taken away. *pets* And I thought he totally seemed to be more relaxed and trusted her more after finding out she killed someone!

Hahahhahaha, glad I'm not the only one! *g*

It also apparently makes her "stupid," just like being a kiss-o-gram. *eyeroll*

LOL, thank you! He definitely looked crestfallen after that, but I couldn't think of any other reason why.

A thousand times YES to this. Heck, I'd probably try it myself if the Doctor randomly turned up in my bedroom.

And to the folks calling Amy a whore: fuck you

And a big yes to this as well. Fandom seriously needs to get over its issues with women. It's disgusting what some people think is OK to say.

Or at least seriously consider it.

Bravo, Amy. And I thought it was awesome when Martha was in bed with the Doctor and was all, "HINT HINT HINT?"

Oh, that scene at the end, when they're standing on the misty shore together. Oh, lovely. *sighs happily* There was so much in these two episodes, I'm going to have to watch and rewatch.

Yes! I don't ship them either, and that scene was embarrassing because it was... It was that moment when you hit on your best friend and you know you're going to be sorry in the morning when you have a hangover. And that's perfectly in character for Amy and Eleven. I was embarrassed for Amy, not by Amy.

This season's been so gorgeous so far, I can't stop staring.

LOL! This is the perfect description of that scene!
